The holiday is almost over.
As you probably know, it’s currently the school summer holidays and we’re barreling towards the start of the new school year. As a kid, this juncture always gave me mixed feelings; the dread of the freedom that the holiday gives you coming to an end, but also the mild excitement of walking towards a lot of new experiences that the new school year will bring.
I wonder if my kids are old enough to be having these thoughts. Mana probably does, but Alex, well I doubt he does at his age.
So anyway, my wife and kids have been away for the last two weeks, leaving me here at home to look after myself, the house and the cat. We’ll come back to this in a moment.
The kids have been having fun and lots of it. The other day they went to a circus and saw lots of animals and funny clowns driving around in a ridiculously small car – clowns have always given me the creeps, which is probably why I loathe cosplay of any sort. They’ve been swimming in a lake, going for walks in the big forest and seeing all the sites, as well as helping out Oma and Opa with various chores around their huge house. They’ve had a good time by all accounts, but it is time for them to return.
Meanwhile, I’ve been here all on my lonesome and let’s be honest, it’s been so-so.
In these last two weeks I haven’t been to bed once, not cooked myself any meals at all as I just couldn’t be bothered, I’ve shaved once and not done any shopping. On the other hand though, I have tackled all the chores that needed to be done, so at least I am tending to the important stuff, if you don’t count my own well being.
Recent activities of note are pretty minimal. I went to the BBC last week and picked up some props with a couple of mates, but since then, I’ve done very little else. Well, I say that, I have worked on that script that I’ve been asked to do – what a nightmare. I pretty much completely shredded the entire damned thing and have almost had to start over from scratch because on reflection, I just wasn’t happy with it at all – I’m on draft four right now. That’s caused a slight setback with that project then.
I’ve also built a couple of (very quick) hand props out of junk that I had laying around, so at some point I should start to think about painting them up. A couple of days ago I pulled an alien mask out of storage and did a bit more work to that. Nothing special, I might add, just a bit of surface prep work and nowt much more productive than that really… oh, and none of any of these activities are worth showing you pictures of.
One final thing before I go, why do many people never use the words “please” or “thank you” when emailing me for stuff? I bend over backwards to help them out, but you’d think they’d do me the courtesy in return, wouldn’t you? Come on, it’s basic manners. I won’t grumble though, life’s too short for that.
Well, I’d best crack on. I’m sure there are plenty of things that need to be done that I can deliberately ignore and leave until the last possible moment.
Bye for now then.
